BIOGRAPHY

A native of the town of Barili in Cebu, Pantaleon Kardenas was born on July 27, 1893. He wrote fiction and poetry under various names like Alex Banwag, Leon Kard, Mario Lorenzo, Pio Kardenal, and Taga-Bukid. Rizal: Ang Bayani ug Sinakit, Wala nay Panahon, and Ubos sa Magtalisay are some of the books he published. In 1923, he established the Barili Press. He spent his early education in Barili, pursued his higher education at Colegio de San Carlos, and was sent to Manila to study at Instituto de Burgos. He migrated to Ozamis in 1939. Kardenas died at the age of 65 on January 17 1959.
