The USC Cebuano Studies Center will host the launch of Merlie M. Alunan’s latest poetry collection, Pagdakop sa Bulalakaw published by Ateneo de Manila University Press on March 15, 2014 at the Cebu Cathedral Museum at 3:00 p.m.

The collection contains poems that Alunan wrote within ten years of finding her way back to Cebuano, the language she learned as a child travelling between the different islands of the Visayas.

Alunan wrote poetry in English, earning several honors for her work from the Carlos Palanca Memorial Literary Award, The Philippines Free Press, Home Life Magazine and UMPIL (Unyon ng mga Manunulat sa Pilipinas, 1998). In 2007, she won first place for fiction in Cebuano in the CPMAL, and second place in the Balak Category of the Gawad Komisyon ng Wikang Filipino literary contest. UP awarded her Professor Emeritus upon her retirement in December 2008.
