The Cornelio Faigao Memorial Annual Writers Workshop is committed to promoting a community of committed writers and creative expression in the literary arts. The CFMAWW offers workshops to writers of different genres.

The Drama and Performance Workshop
The 2014 Cornelio Faigao Memorial Annual Writers Workshop will have a back-to-back drama and performance playwright’s unit designed to develop a playwright’s voice through “coaching” in writing and acting. The playwright and acting workshop will be run by Ms. Linda Faigao-Hall, the esteemed New York playwright.
The workshop is effective for no more than five (5) playwrights only; it is offered in three days, Friday to Sunday, 9am -12pm; 2pm-5pm. The objective is for each playwright to complete one original short play and perform one fully realized monologue from a published play chosen by Ms. Faigao-Hall.
Fee : PhP 2,000.00 (includes materials and a staged reading of all the plays open to the public)
Qualifications:
Passion for creative writing in any genre.
Submission of a resume, including at least one year’s experience in theater productions either as actor, director, or playwright or production crew member.
Participant must commit to attend all three days, Friday to Sunday, 9am – 12 pm; 2pm – 5pm. There will be no exceptions.
This workshop is open only to a Cebuano or a Bisaya, identified as someone born in Cebu or the Visayas whose work is primarily based in Cebu or the Visayas and has kept in touch with his local roots either through periodic contacts with his or her local school, community or family. The development of theater arts outside of Manila is the primary mission of this unit.

Call for submissions:
The 2014 Cornelio Faigao Memorial Annual Writers Workshop (June 6 – June 8, 2014) is now open for submissions from December 15, 2013 to March 31, 2014. Regular mail submissions must be postmarked March 31, 2014 to be eligible for screening. Applicants may submit a suite of seven (7) poems, a short story or a play in either English or in Cebuano. Writing samples will not be returned.
Submission has closed as of 1 April 2014. Many thanks to those who have submitted their applications.

About the coach
Linda Faigao Hall was born and raised in the Philippines and immigrated to the United States in the early 70’s. She holds a graduate degree in English literature and educational theater from New York University and Bretton College, Wakefield, England. An anthology of her produced plays The Female Heart and Other Plays was published in New York City last year by NoPassport Press and was launched in Cebu City in June 2013 sponsored by The Freeman at the Waterfront Hotel. Productions: God, Sex and Blue Water, (LIA – Living Image Arts, Theater Row 42nd Street, New York, NY) Sparrow, (LIA- Theater Row); The A-Word, (DCT- Diverse City Theater Company- Theater Row ) which was included in Smith and Kraus’ The Best Ten-Minute Plays of 2008; The Female Heart, (EST – Ensemble Studio Theater and DCT, Theater Row ) ; Duet; The Interview (both by Starfish Theaterworks); Woman From the Other Side of the World (Asian-American Repertory Theater, San Diego, CA; InterAct Theater, Sacramento, CA; East West Players Inc. Los Angeles; Ma-Yi Theater NYC, Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia; New Delhi, India); State Without Grace (Pan Asian Repertory Theater NYC and Asian-American Theater Company, San Francisco). A full-length play commissioned by The Working Theater, Walking Iron, was awarded a National Endowment of the Arts award. She teaches English at the College of New Rochelle and Mercy College, both in New York City. She is also currently pursuing a postgraduate degree in English Studies at Oxford University, England.
